Tips from Our Long Island Beauty School: What to Ask Skin Care Clients

Every client is different, so it is crucial to tailor skincare treatments to fit individual needs. Here are three basic questions we teach students at our Long Island beauty school to always ask before beginning treatment.

What are your goals?

This question may seem like a no-brainer, but it often gets overlooked. Just because a client has requested a specific treatment doesn’t mean that treatment best reflects their goals. Be sure to verify what effects your client is hoping to achieve before getting started.

What is your current regimen?

What your client does for their skin regularly can tell you a lot about the issues they are experiencing and how they may react to your treatment. Our Long Island beauty school also recommends asking clients about their regimen because you may discover they are unknowingly using products that irritate their skin. There is a lot of misinformation about skincare out there, and part of your role is to counteract it and educate clients appropriately.

Are you taking any medications, supplements, or vitamins?

While some clients may not wish to share what medications they take, this information can be quite illuminating. At our Long Island beauty school, we teach students about the possible skin-related side effects caused by popular medicines, supplements, and so on. Likewise, we instruct learners to advise clients to consult with their doctors about side effects.
